Product Review

All carvers struggle with sharpening at some point. The “Sharpening Simplified” video will show you a simple, proven method to get your tools properly contoured and sharp every time.

The host of the video is Everett Ellenwood, an award-winning carver who distributed pre-sharpened carving tools for over 17 years. He is a carving instructor who has taught hundreds of carvers his unique, easy to-learn sharpening technique, which is the basis for the video.

Shot with three cameras, the video was professionally made in a studio setting. It is 110 minutes long and divided into nine color-coded segments: 1) Introduction; 2) Sharpening Position; 3) Sharpening Stones; 4) Carving Knives; 5) Gouges and Veiners; 6) Flat Chisels; 7) V-tools; 8) Micro Tools and 9) Conclusion.

Each segment is developed in the same order. First Everett shows you what each tool should look like when it is properly sharpened and why. Then he physically sharpens the tool to show how to achieve a sharp and properly contoured tool. Through the use of sharp, crisp close ups and informative comments, each step is explained in full detail.

The video is available in DVD or VHS for $24.95 plus $4 shipping. To order, send a check or money order to Everett Ellenwood, 1866 171/2 Street, NW, Rochester, MN 55901. For additional information, call or email 507-289-2616/ellenwoodarts@charter.net.
