World
Famous Chainsaw Carver to Give Local Demonstration of Her Art
April
28, 2004
East
Petersburg ,
PA : The parking lot of Fox Chapel Publishing in East Petersburg,
PA will be the site of a chainsaw carving demonstration on Tuesday, May
4, 2004.
Internationally
renowned carver Jessie Groeschen will fire up her chainsaw and carve a
sculpture of a rose—in honor of her visit to Lancaster—from 3 to 5 p.m.
at Fox Chapel's headquarters, located at 1970 Broad Street, just off Route
72 in East Petersburg.
Groeschen,
who has been a chainsaw carver for more than 10 years, now makes her living
with this extreme art form, and is working with this local publisher to
develop a book on chainsaw carving.
“Chainsaw
carving started out as yard ‘gaga',” Groeschen said, “but today's chainsaw
carvers are true artists and sculptors, who create work that is beautiful,
fine and monumental,” she stated. “Grace and beauty inspire woodcarvers,
and my tool of choice happens to be a chainsaw.”
Groeschen
has participated in dozens of carving competitions throughout the world,
and was the first American to compete in Japan . There is a universal
fascination with chainsaw carving, due in part to the fact that the artists
are creating their work with a potentially lethal tool.
