DIY
Network Comes To Fox Chapel Publishing to Film Television Special
East
Petersburg , PA: On Sunday, August 1 2004, a film crew from the
DIY Network—a sister network of HGTV—spent the day at the offices of Fox
Chapel Publishing to film the first of a five-part series on the cable
network about woodcarving.
East
Petersburg-based Fox Chapel Publishing was contacted by the network to
help produce the program, according to Mark Vogel, Fox Chapel's Marketing
Manager. “We publish the leading magazine on woodcarving: Wood Carving
Illustrated , as well as more than 200 woodworking books, many of
them on woodcarving,” Vogel said. “The network asked us to recommend five
of our authors to be featured on a program about woodcarving, which we
did.”
The
five-part series will introduce a different type of carving on each show.
The first show will feature Lancaster 's own Chris Lubkemann—the author
of a new book from Fox Chapel: “ Whittling Twigs & Branches.”
Lubkemann will demonstrate his unique style of carving on the program,
which can produce fascinating creations from a simple twig.
For
local media wishing to cover this event, the best time to come is between
1 and 3 p.m. on August 2. For more information, call Mark Vogel at 717-560-4703,
ext. 33.
Author
Chris Lubkemann was born of missionary parents in Brazil and remembers
his earliest attempts at woodcarving at age seven, deep in the Amazon
rain forest of eastern Peru . His appreciation for wood and love for making
things from it never stopped. His first forked-branch rooster hatched
between his junior and senior years at college, and the hours spent whittling
away actually helped pay for his education. Chris' work in the ministry
has taken him to many foreign countries and throughout the United States.
Wherever he has gone, he has always had a pocketknife close by with a
handful of twigs and branches. So, the simple craft picked up more than
37 years ago continues to be shared and passed on to people from all over
the world.
