Hi Doris
that's a very nice piece.. Looks like Pre Raphael style; are you fan?
Raphael and Pre Raphaelites; the works of Ford Madox Brown, James Collinson, William Holman Hunt, William Morris and Sir Edward Coley Burn Jones, to name just a few is one of my favorit period/style's I am influanced by!
Is it carved from Lime/Basswood?

clivewoodcarver, yes, it is carved from linden=european lime, and i did not consciously made it look pre raphael, but i see now it is somewhat...i am big fan of renaissance carvers though, ...

Yes Doris I think you right! I like the work of Riemenschneider too, along with Grinling Gibons although much later and before the Pre Raphaelites. It was Grinling Gibons that introduced Linden/Limewood carving to England around 1600's; before that most carved work in stately homes/house's was done in Oak. I beleive that Sweet Chestnut was used in the area's where guests or visitors were less likely to go! Rodin is another favorite of mine.
Well done again
Clive
