The interesting aspect of this project is the wood. While visiting Granada, Nicaragua, I saw a piece of wood in a furniture shop. A worker was trying to smooth this 16" x 26" board with a hand plane. I asked the owner to buy it, and later what it was called. He said and wrote for me, "cenisaro," which in Spanish means ashtray. This didn't check out with any references. Finally, a year later, I was working with someone in Nicaragua who had done his college studies on native plants and trees of Nicaragua. He explained it was Genizaro, one of the national trees of the country (after the Ceiba). It is a variety of Acacia, with color ranging from creamy white to dark brown, and hardness from medium to very hard. This piece, out of the crotch of a large tree, has grain running in every direction.
