Way to go!
I don't even want to think of my first piece.
Keep practicing those curved cuts with one smooth cut. You sometimes have to raise the angle of the blade to accompolish this. That will help you avoid the chatter marks. Also go light when you have many converging lines as in the center of your carving. This also requires raising the blade almost straight to avoid breakouts. Sometimes you can't help breaks and its no shame to repair them. Happens all the time. Hope this helps!
