Deborah, the danish oil finish wouldn't be safe for food items.
I use a combo or walnut oil and beeswax for the food use spoons I carve. I put the beeswax and walnut oil in a glass jar in a pan of water(double boiler) and heat them up until the beeswax melts and stir it up. I keep the mixture in the jar and store it the frig so it doesn't go rancid.
