Perry Phillips of Battle Creek, MI, carved these figures out of basswood. They are finished with boiled linseed oil darkened with a little dark oil paint. Each figure is carved individually and mounted on the hardwood base. The 82-year-old artist has been carving for 20 years. He has more than 100 individual carvings—most of them human figures.
