Hi Jim, I came across your profile by a thread you answered about Mango... I then saw your user name 'Jmischel'. Then, below it i saw 'whittling fool'. Anyone that's an absolute whittling fool is a friend of this 'Crazy Carver'!
    Sincerely, Rob (Lazy Carver)

    Hi Jim.
Always nice to run into other hams. I have been a ham since 1970, and have been active almost all the time. The exception was a couple of times when I was in the Air Force and couldn't set up a station where I was stationed.

I've only been carving since late April, but am having a blast learning. I am doing mostly relief carving right now, but have done some chip carving and and Santa Clauses as well.

Where n Texas do you live? I spent 30 years in Texas. I lived in Lubbock, San Antonio and Houston.
Best 73 and hope to see you on the air sometime.

    Mike

    Hi Jim,
My mesquite arrived the other day...what beautiful stuff! Thanks again...that was very nice of you! You should be getting my carvings soon...I hope you like them. I have a question...do you power carve your mesquite, I'm assuming you do...its pretty hard stuff!
    Kind regards & happy carving!
    Bob

Thank you for the comment on my ball in box you tube video. Also, thank you for providing the direct link to my channel !
I love the saying that you have under your name "I've never sold a carving, but...." Would you mind if I put that saying on my website under my how to wood carve a basic owl page? because I never sold the basic owls that I carve. I carved over 50 all as gifts.

Not an expert by any means on the ball in cages, but have done quite a few. Would be glad to try to answer any questions you may have about them. You can see some of mine in my WCI gallery. They are not that hard once you have done a couple. The twist, on the other hand, is more difficult. John

    Hi jmischel,

I just came across your post about the Oak removal. The tree looked pretty OK to me. Was there significant rot inside?

    Thanks
    david
