There has been discussion about the goop for the Dockyard sharpening strop. If the goop dried out or the tin rusts it is bad. The Carving Glove Guy .com will replace any and all of the goop that has done this. The compound was made into a paste because the bar of compound will not go into the small grove for the 1.5 mm gouge. You can contact him through his web site or contact the supplier who sold the strop. Either way the goop will be gladly replaced

Hi Dave, I saw your post back in march about the problems with Denny knives. You may have already learned of this but Denny was bought out by mike shipley and mike is working w/ denney for a while to "learn" to make denny knives. one note, the "newer" denny knives that mike will be making will not have the brass "rivots" (?) like his original knive had. I liked denny knives and I have a few shipley knives too, but after seeing several of your posts I think my next knife will be a drake. just my 2 cents thanks, Gary

After you are through grinding, approx' how many turns do you take on the leather wheel on your massager to hone? Also, have you tried any other compounds other than Tormek?
    Thanks,
    Van

Hi Dave. Istarted down this slippery slope by adding cheeks or scales to a Pfiel #1 so it would fit my hand. Then I started making handles resembling broomsticks and inserting Warren blades. Then I started making custom handles that look like enlarged traditional handles and still using Warren blades. The I saw an Alan Goodman knife and fell in love with his handle shape so I made a similar one to fit my hand and got a hold of a power hacksaw blade and shaped my own blade . I have since made blades from old kitchen butcher knives both high carbon and stainless, concrete nails, leaf rake tangs, reciprocating and jig saw blades. I gotta tell ya this is more fun than carving but you have to test drive each blade. There is NOTHING more rewarding than peeling a nice clean shaving with a knife you have made yourself. If you get stuck and have to DIY.. Go for it! my experience is limited but I'll help if I can. I just wish I could post photos to show them to you
