I think there was something about blogs down in the business section. I think it was Di who was asking about it.
Hopefully someone else will read this and get you the help you need.
I'm interested also, but don't have the time to research it right now and am a total bonehead when it comes to things like that!

In general you need an ISP (Internet Service Provider) to host your website. You can put whatever you want on your site, including a blog. If you are unfamiliar with designing a website, you can hire a "computer genie" to do it for you. Some web hosting sites offer pre-designed pages for you to put your information online.

Pallin suggests needing a hosting provider and then installing blog software, etc. etc.

Not really. It can be a LOT easier than that. There are two major services that provide blog hosting at NO CHARGE. No bother finding an ISP, installing blog software, etc. etc.

Flint mentioned one of those services, Blogger. There are thousands upon thousands of Blogger blogs. They're easy enough for your 94 year old grandmother to set up. There are quite a few themes to select from. I'm sure you'll find something you like there.

Personally, I like Wordpress much better. Just as with Blogger, set up is very easy. You can be on your way this evening if you want. Get started at http://wordpress.com.

As for why I like Wordpress better. Wordpress uses very effective spam filtering technology. Blogger doesn't. Instead, Blogger imposes on the people who post comments to use those damned CAPTCHA things, the jumbled letter gizmos. I'm an accessibility consultant who sees CAPTCHAs as the number one barrier for people with vision problems, Even those of us with no disabilities fail to do a CAPTCHA right about 20% of the time. My view is sites that depend on CAPTCHAs to prevent spam are either too lazy or too ignorant to do it right. Wordpress does their spam prevention in the background. You never see a CAPTCHA on a Wordpress blog.
