It's hard to beat Montana Cottonwood Bark for the color and nice thickness. I carve Montana Cottonwood Bark too, of which I get from a Pal. I do carve our Arizona Cottonwood Bark, but it's not half as thick as MCB. I do manage to get some woodspirits carved from it though and little whimsy houses.
