Default Primative Cherry Bowl

Hi all,
Found an old & large hunk of cherry that had an oblong hole/depression in it and decided to try and make a bowl using my chainsaw to cut most of the wood away. While grinding on it all of a sudden this pheasant appeared but couldn't put much detail because the wood in this piece is "beyond" being stable. I slopped a bunch of Cabot's wood preservative on it in hopes of stabilizing the wood at least a little. To me it looks like it was carved out eon's ago and the most important thing is that my wife loves it! Its 29" long, 5" high and approx 9" deep with only the preservative applied so far. Thanks for looking!
Dan

Dan, that's a prize of a "feast dish" in PacNW coastal cultures. The pheasant helps with the definition. Big enough to be really useful (popcorn, maybe?). But I'd be proud to trot that out for a dinner with family or friends. How many roast pheasants might it hold? 4?

Great looking bowl, the pheasant is a nice touch. Looks like just the right size for my serving of ice cream. Thanks for sharing

Hi Brian,
I guess it would be a good popcorn bowl, but my wife has it on our large oak table as a center piece. Just wish I would have taken some before pics, this piece was huge but mother nature had almost consumed it so its less than a third the original size. Thanks for the very kind words.

Hi Tom,
Don't really care what kind of degree it is, at least I now have one. BTW, I hunted them when I was much younger but have a very hard time killing anything anymore, guess I'm gettin' soft. Glad you like it and thanks for your nice comments.

Hey Don,
This was a fast one, just like you enjoy doing. Chainsaw, then grinder with a little dremel work on the bird. Thanks for taking time to leave your nice comments.
