Hi Wanda, I love the faces of the dolphins you have going. I'd say finish the dolphins and see where that leave you. Whether you feel you need to add more to the center, should show. If so, then maybe some sea weed indications waving in the current.
Looking forward to watching your progress neat piece of wood as for the eee eeek noise very interesting.

Wanda-It's your carving and what you have done and brought the grain and color out of that found wood is really really good. Keep looking at it,your mind and the wood will tell you!!!

Hey Kathy, thanks for the sea weed idea.
I have read and reread a book I got on stylized carving in found wood. It showed a sea turtle immerging from the wood halfway. I thought I'd try it with the dolphins.
Yeah, the eee eeek really got to me too. I had the two dolphins on the left done and was starting on the one on the right when the wood squeeked almost like a dolphin. Kind of un nerved me. I think it was sand inbedded in the wood.

I guess I have been reading too much about wood spirits and wood speaking ot the carver.

Good morning Curt. No telling where my mind will go. Sometimes I really miss it!

I think the center is too bare, but I wanted a few opinions before I destroy what I have. I don't want a complete dolphin showing anywhree on it. I want a camera view of the school. You know mostly tails and splashes.

I have had to go to plan B or is it D? The wood in the center was not stable enough to carve another dolphin.

I had to compromise but I still like it. It is drying now but I will snap some photos hopefully tomorrow after my dreaded Doctor appointment.

I love the idea of carving wood by committee!!!!
I have often wondered what it would look like if you were able to give the EXACT same piece of driftwood/found wood to a room full of carvers and give them...oh, say...8 hours before show and tell.

Wanda, your vision is great...your follow through is every bit as good. Everyone that looks at a piece of wood sees it a little different. I have felt the need for awhile to carve a dolphin "pod" in a piece of driftwood. Still struggling with time. Keep carving??

Sharon, Thanks for the vote of confidence. The Rhuematologists visit went pretty well. The white counts are better but still below normal. The meds seem to be lessening the side effects of Lupus but the xrays show the knees are really bad. A cane will be my best friend for a while until the white counts come up enough to fight off any possible infection with replacement and of course, a lot less weight on them would be helpful. LOL.

Jerry, I like the idea of bouncing others ideas around when in doubt. I am so new to carving, I sometimes doubt myself. I was only going to have the three dolphins showing but the wood seemed so empty in the middle. I thought about waves but wasn't sure if stylized work and waves went together.
I guess getting other carvers opinions when unsure of the best way to go ahead, really helps you go past the block.
