Smile My Juniper carving to Gil Drake

We just finished the Northwest Carvers Association Show. The show went well and I saw lots of friends and carvers. I have been doing that show since about 1976. I had decided before the show that I would pass on my Juniper carving to Gil Drake. Gil had admired it when I had it at a show sometime back. I know that I will never get it finished and I wanted him to have the carving and to finish it for me. I had found that piece of Juniper many years ago out east of the mountains in the Montana desert all dirty and worn. Looking forward to seeing it finished someday! ( Gil asked me if he didn't finish it the way I wanted it what then? I told him that's his problem, I gave it to you!)

Art, my friend, that was a very nice thing to do and you could not have given it to a better carver to finish. I sure hope we get to see the finished carving, even though it looks great like it is. I'm sure Gil will make it a work of "Art"!!!

Nice work Art. I hope Gil maintains the theme and lines you've started. I'd hate to see him turn it into one of his trademark charicatures...
