Default The Jester

This is my newest woodspirit. Carved from aspen (I think). The bark is pretty thick. If anyone has a better read on what kind of wood this is, I'd appreciate the information. The nose is a branch take off. The wood (well seasoned) was easy to carve. The only problem was around the nose where the grain went every which way. Basically it was a burl as far a grain goes. Of course, being found wood, the quality was variable. The dark spot you see on the left side of the nose was very splintery and would basically turn to dust at the least touch. I stabilized the wood there with thin CA glue. It carve better thereafter, but I still had to be careful.

All comments are welcome.

Bob

Bob, you did great! I love the character you were able to bring out of this wood. I bet someone will come along who can tell us forsure what type of wood. Actually, it doesn't really matter what matters is that you got a great carving there.
