Good looking spoons Don, and great that you found all that wood. I was in Smithtown visiting family during Irene, I am glad it was not as bad as they had thought it was going to be! Dave |

Very very nice looking spoons! Never carved gingko. Sounds like good carving wood. Do you know if the wood is non-toxic?

| Yes , as far as I tell it's safe. I have learned it is commonly used for bowls and cutting boards.

Great looking spoons Don! I'm just now experimenting with carvings spoons. My biggest problem is getting them smooth. I know you need to sand the hell out of them but can you give me any tips for getting this done?

I work in stages. First, rough out on band saw. Next, rough shape with knives and gouges. Next, round with a pattern-makers's file. Then sand with 80, 100, 150, 220 and 320. Last I go over with a brown paper from a bag. Then apply a finish. I like Tried & True. Finish up with a coat of bees wax.
