Nice, so far. I really like that angel. If you keep going at this rate this could be the year you get it done Rooster.

Cutting them apart, I'm sure made it easier. I like the progress you have made on them. Great looking ornaments!!

My two year old is my best critic. When he saw the angel, his comment was, "Oooh. Eh ... where mouth?" Thanks lad, thanks.

When he saw the Santa that I'm working on, he just kept turning it around in his hands. He couldn't figure out which way was up. Nice! You can't beat a bit of honesty from the kids.

I'm kinda struggling with this one though. I looks ok as a relief carving, but it's supposed to be in the round. I think I just have to figure out where to put the ears, carve them and then blend the rest in. Any suggestions or advice would be very welcome.

Otherwise it's fun. Slow but fun.

Ok embarrassing as this is, I'm finished with these. I was finished a week or so ago, but then did a job on the Santa (pics in the next post) This is the progress of the reindeer.

So here are the final carvings. I haven't decided how to finish them really. They will (if given permission) be hung on the Christmas tree next year, but I don't know whether to varnish, stain or paint them. Painting them (well) would be my preferred option, but I can't be sure that I can do it well.

I was finished with the Santa, even though his nose looked like ... not very good! So I glued a piece on yesterday and carved him a decent nose and mouth this evening. I'm actually quite proud of that now. He looks a bit more jolly than he did before his nose job.

As for the 4 pieces that are remaining, I was going to do the same designs again, just better. Now, I'm thinking I'll do 4 new designs, cause the first 4 aren't really as bad as I'd expected. I don't mind them going on the tree now. Somewhere towards the back though ... only kidding!

I think I'll need to start even earlier on the next 4 though. Ah, I'll have a day off tomorrow. Start on Friday.

Happy ... eh ... Christmas?
Rooster.
