Default Christ and wood spirit

Sharon's comment about "crack heads" made me think of these two carvings I have languishing out in the shop. I was going for the weathered look with "christ". These were done years ago and the one on the left, left outdoors to age.

Hi medicinedog,
The one on the left, I mean right, no I mean left, oh well, they're both great, really like the "smiley" faced guy, is he done in walnut? You mentioned they were carved years ago, are you still carving?
Happy Holidays, Dan

Thanks Kathy, I like antiques so I carved the Christ image and then hung it outdoors. After years outside it ended up in the garage.
Thanks for the comments Dan, both are actually walnut, the Christ just being weathered. I am not as prolific as many of the carvers on this board, I'm still working, usually 50 hrs/week and I have a lot of interests, travel, motorcycle riding, etc. that pull me away from carving. Currently I have 2 trout, Mr Peanut, lunker fish, 2 kachinas, a Christmas angel in relief, trying to figure out airbrushing and the list goes on in the works so to speak. Completion is not so much a big deal with me as much as the planning and doing. Attached is a kachina doll I am trying to reproduce. I seem to spend a lot of time these days cruising this site. I really enjoy Kathy and your work. Hope you have a Merry Christmas. LAR

Vary nice carvings Lar. I got the same patterns book many years ago, I carved the tree troll in red cedar for a friend about a year ago and now use the picture of it as my avatar.

That is some fine work! The Kachina is pretty neat too. I've often thought of doing one of those. There is just something about them that amazes me every time I see one.

Lar, your "crack heads" are great! I like what the weather did to "Christ."
It takes me a long time to finish anything and I have lots unfinished! Plus I have a small nursery that takes up time.

Hey MD, I just have to comment on this one. Iwas admiring your work as I like wood spirits and natural aged wood when the young man at the table caught my eye, I got my wife, my youngest son, my oldest son, some uncles of oldest son, and other people to look at this fellow. Everyone agrees that he and oldest son could be twins. Their faces look the same, same haircut, same beard style and same dark complexion. It is simply uncanny. The carvings are nice too.
