Default Butternut Turtle

Hi all,
While out at my woodshed I noticed a fairly large hump in a piece of butternut and right away I could see a turtle shell so I started shaping it with an angle grinder then dremel and hand tools & a ton of sanding. He's a chubby little rascal approx 11" long by 6" wide and 5" high with natural danish oil applied to the entire piece and then put Hellman's spar on the shell for a glossy finish. Thanks for taking a peek.
Dan

Oh, no! The turtle's on his back! I hope you turned him over.

Very nice work, Dan. I like the way it shows off the butternut. Don't think I've ever seen a butternut log before--just the few small pieces that some of the carving club members have from time to time.

Hey Ole Buddy, I think you have turned into an ARTIST. You carve what see and do it very well. I enjoy seeing what you see in wood. Keep it up . Merle

Hi Dick,
No time for eating or sleeping, LOL. I usually only carve in the morning for 3 to 4 hours, I'm an early riser and have everything cleaned up before lunch. There are just so many critters waiting for me to release them that I have to keep at it. Thanks my friend.
