Default Black Walnut Turtle

Hi all,
Found a hunk of walnut out in the shed the other day with a large knot and was pretty sure it would make a beautiful turtle shell. Roughed it out with a chainsaw & angle grinder then dremel and hand tools. Used several grades of sandpaper to get the polished look, brushed him with natural danish oil then put spar on the shell only. He's 10" long, 5" wide and 4" high, the pics don't do the grain justice. Took the pics out in the yard yesterday morning but now there's about 7" of snow out there with a bunch of "Lake Effect Snow" on the way. Thanks for taking a peek.
Dan

Another cool one Dan. You are giving meaning to that old expression "faster than a herd of speeding turtles".

Hi Dick,
I'm gonna have a herd of them soon, finishing up a raised relief Cedar Koi and also have another turtle roughed out in butternut, been busy as a bee. Thanks my friend for your nice words.

Very nice piece Dan. The knot on the shell really makes it interesting. I'll bet the grain really jumps out. (I used to live in South Bend and Nappanee. Don't envy your lake effect. Think Spring.)

Great carving Dan, that is a very good wood for that type of carving it really shows off the beauty of the wood.

Realy beautiful work Dan Thanks for sharing

Only seen Lake effect snow once in the Northeast of Scotland Which was kinda strange as it came off the North sea Thunder, Lightining and snow It was something else to watch But could have done without the 3 feet of snow it dumped on us

Cheers

Hi Mike,
Probably if I took my time with pics the grain would show up better, the grain does jump out. Right now I'll bet you're glad you way down in southern Illinois, we're not doing too bad, the wind hasn't switched yet but southwest Michigan is gettin' hit pretty hard and its just a few miles to the north. Thanks for your nice remarks.
