Thanks very much guys for your continued encouragement. It's really appreciated.
Larry, yep all my figures are 3-1/4". I had a piece of Lime wood 1-1/8" thick so I cut it up into 1 1/8" sq x 3 1/4" pieces..... about 30 of them! I got the original size from one of Gene's brilliant Youtube videos and pretty much stuck to that size. Also my wife was getting fed up with an army of wee guys lining up on the mantle piece so I've made a small 3 shelf wall mount to suit that size of figure that could hold around 27 at a squeeze!
I've just finished carving no.8 and am going to have a go at making an even uglier than Sadie's ugly sister! LOL! and maybe a scaled down Harley Refsal "Oskar". Well that's the plan any how!
I'm still not sure if my figures are "flat" enough to be Flat plane figures or not.... if you know what I mean?
Simon

Thank you very much guys! You guys are so encouraging!
I'm really enjoying this carving tremendously! I'm half roads through carving a wife for "Jethro" which is really strange trying to carve a lassie! LOL! So used to the knife going straight up from the belly to the throat on the wee guys! LOL! I'm almost settling on a style of carving now which is like a fushion of what I've learned so far.
I really like the 3 1/4" high figure as its small but comfortable in the hand to work with and big enough to include extra detail if I want.
Thanks again, Simon

Old brains are a struggle. Somehow, when I read your post on these "Three Wee Guys" I saw you saying they were 1 3/4" tall, which was different from what you and I have discussed in the past. Where my brain grabbed that height, when you clearly had said 3 1/4", I do not know.

Wish I could say I had that problem. A urinary tract infection and lots of 'it's springtime' house jobs has kept the knife out of my hand.

I think I shall, forever, hold the record on 'ugly' characters. It's funny, though, a friend of mine "recognized" her as being a French cartoon character :-)

I do. I mentioned to someone that I was finding it difficult to get the 'flat planes' to look right and, being a non-carver, they couldn't understand what I was talking about as they see those flats as making the carving "crude" rather than a style. But I still find it hard to get the character to look right while also retaining the flats.
