I sign my pieces with an extra fine tip Sharpie marker.... but my stuff is painted. There are very fine tip "Micron" pens in various colors. I nice shade of brown might look better on unpainted wood. Then clear coat with a matte finish to prevent it from ever being removed....

I sign and date every one. The ones I donate to fund raisers I date with roman numerals. That way I know it was donated, not sold, traded, or gifted. Sort of like my own secret code. At first it was with just a ball point pen, now most are with a woodburner with a writing tip. Have fun, I hope this helped.

I use a pyrograph pen with a round tip. You can go pretty small with it. Initials are good, or come up with something combining your two initials to make it unique.

Do you all sign your carvings/whittlings? How?

I burn it in with a Feather Etcher. Usually on the bottom and most of the time, if there's enough room, my first initial and full last name and date.

If I don't have the room, it's first and last initial and date like 10/15/ '08

A fine point Sharpie works real good for real small items.

I usually inital and year mine -- as small as possible. Carving is prefered, burned if grain is bad.

I always sing or initial my work, so in 100 years on Antique Rode show, they won't get my name wrong.
