Yes really a newby and thankyou ! I plan on doing another as soon as my finger heals up lol Guess I need a carving glove if I am to pursue this hobby .I took a nice deep slice to my finger while working on the "big headed elf" . It's amazing how quick that happened!

As an old, old Santa carver I have to say that you are off to a Great start! I love it and painting really did bring it to life. I look forward to seeing more projects.

Nice job, Iam still working on some of the santa's, first one I did man did I mess up got so mad it ended up as kinling in woodstove think I may have tried to hurry too much lol.

Hey Jungleboy,

A fantastic first carving, very nicely done.
You have found a great instructer in Gene as well.
A carving glove and thumb guard are a necessity, otherwise you paint your carvings red before they're done ;0)

Thank you all for the encouraging comments! here are a few more pics of some of my attempts I did the elf along with Gene's videos again ,and the Santa ornaments and the little bald guy I did on my own . The Ornaments I saw in Woodcarving Illustrated.
