Default Natural Hobo

While sitting at Mcdonalds with my Grandson . he played and I carved .. we both had a good time ..

this is what turned out from that visit ..

I left this hobo natural with the what I believe now is Jelutong .. not butternut like I thought at first ..

he was fun to carve .. flat plane with a knife

Nice! I like that you left him natural.

Gene, is it hard to carve out in public? I mean.. I'm always afraid I'm going to be told to put the knife away, especially if theres kids around. Or they wont say anything to me, but call the cops or something in a panic because someone has a knife. Have you had anyone ask you to quit carving in public? And how do you deal with the chip mess when in public places?

I find myself sitting and waiting and often think of you guys that are brave enough to be out there with your knives , wishing I was that brave.

Hi Marci .. no I havent had any problems with anyone being nervous in me carving near them and I have carved alot out in public .. I have had children walk up to me and I immediately stop and shift my knife backwards in my hand so they wont reach for it .. No complaints from parents or others .. in fact most of them want their children to watch me in a distance carve .. most people have never seen someone carve wood before .. the key is in when the children approach you .. you stop and let the parents know you realize they are there .. no problem .. But then again .. Iam from the south and a small town .. maybe that is different with smaller town folks ..

Has anyone else had this problem ?

Thanks Corey and Forrest ..

Gene

Gene another great one from the great one... no problems carving in public, I use a tackle box with my stuff in it it. Doubles as a chip catcher, contains the mess if I am careful.
