Gene's advice for me was to "practice practice practice". Since it's too cold to play outside I went to the basement and tried another pair of little guys. It's obvious I haven't grasped this yet but I keep watching Gene's lessons and try to force myself to cut deeper and make more straight defining cuts. |

Looking better! One way to help get rid of the square (flat) sides and legs is to look at the carving from near each end. For example, if you held it and looked at it from the soles of the shoes, you'd be able to easily see how square the arms and legs are. Keep practicing!!! ![]() Claude |

A little help....you have too much space from the bottom of the nose to the top lip...also, a mouth is almost a straight line...you get the smile from making the cuts go out further from the nose forming the cheeks. Hope this helps. My first ones looked a lot different than they do now....1876 later! Sharon |

Your on your way and the only way to learn deeper cuts or what something is going to look like is to do it and experiment .. alot of beginners are afraid to do it in fear of starting over .. but experimentation was the key to me learning what the cuts produce .. keep it up .. your doing great Gene

I'm newer to the style than many, I found that cutting deeper is something you can sneak up on-take ashallow cut, take a look, cut a lttle more...... Bflobif blog at www.bflobif.com |
