Thanks for all the compliments here! The more I carve these figures the easier it gets it seems. Lot of folks do not like to paint, but I feel that this is the final step on reaching the end of the project, and then to the shelf it will go to enjoy; unless of course you give it away as I have done! Oh well, there is plenty of wood and the paint is still cheap!
Thanks for looking;
Rich

Can you advise what reading material for flat planing would be good for a beginner at flat planing to refer too?

fly fisherman;
If you go here on this site and look for Gene Messer, he is the flat plane Master and Moderator, and also has lots of videos on Tube too. And if you Google Harley Refsal, you will find all of his books on bringing it all back from yesteryear. Once you start these carvings, it is hard to just look at the nice sharp knife laying on your bench, and not in your hand!

Have fun, and be safe,
Rich

Flyfisherman:
It's me again! I thought you could get some info in Google, but here is a better link; go to Pinewoodforge.com. Here is where Harley Refsal has his famous "Harley" knife made. He also has numerous books on flat plane carving. Harley teaches classes at the Verterheim in Decorah, IA. He has videos too. Hope this helps.

Actually I'm diggin the paint work. Just dark enough to see the grain. Choice of colors is subjective.

Wonderful! Now, about the ice fishing. If you are in a hut, it's good. Not so good is sitting on a upturned bucket, in front of the hole, with your back to the wind...

With best regards.
