Default Karl Oskar, in Scandinavian flat plane

I wanted to share this with you. During the recent tropical storm "Lee", down here on the Mississippi Gulf coast, I had 4 days of rain and tornadoes, so I took out my carving knives and carved this figure. He is Karl Oskar, a brother to "Oskar", from Harley Refsal's book on figurines. It was a fun carve. I used acrylics, and finished with a couple coats of Minn-wax paste. My Grandparents were from Norway, and immigrated to Minnesota in 1903. They homesteaded, carved out a farm, and raised their family of 5 boys and one girl, my Aunt and Uncles. I remember seeing my Grandfather Johannes carving small farm animals and figures, that always ended up on his "display shelf" above the wood stove in the kitchen. I guess this kept him busy during the long winters, after going ice fishing of course!
Thanks for looking..
Rich
