Yes jimmie joe it is very nice wood to carve and I like the looks of it when just finished with mineral oil, it darkens and highlights nice. I just have a little trouble with splitting if I'm not careful. I use pine and basswood most. Am looking to try white cedar. Al

Great bunch of characters there, Al, and a neat little dog. I've carved a bit with butternut and found it just a little harder than basswood with a tendency to tear out. It looks great finished, though with a grain similar to walnut.

Keep up the great carvings and thanks for sharing.
