Here is another golf ball carving. I did something different this time. I inserted a one inch magnet in the back of the golf ball and stuck it to the Fridge. I wasn't sure if it was too heavy, but the magnet is plenty strong and it works great. This also is a Christmas gift. Sorry to see it goUnHappy Thanks for looking. Mark

I really like that one . Now a question I just started trying to carve golf balls and after cutting one in half I did a santa it came out fairly well but I am alergic to epoxy. Is there another way to glue them I was told to only use expoxy I want to put a magnet on the back also. I don't have a camera or I would post a picture |

I would suggest using some other type of waterproof glue such as Gorilla Glue, or even a tube of super glue. I have never used gorilla glue, but the super glue works well and sets up quick. In case your are interested, I used a 1" spade bit to make a hole in the back of the golf ball, so that the magnet would set down flush in the golf ball. Let me know if I can help more. Mark

I was just reading your post again, and I wondered if I understood you? Did you cut the golf ball completely in half? If you did, all you have to do is cut off half of the cover. I would recommend watching Gene's video in the gallery on this site. He has a video tutorial on carving golf balls, and shows everything from removing the cover and painting.

I would recommend trying just cutting the cover off one half. That way you not only have something to hold onto while carving, but it also is clearly carved from a golf ball. The process for this is very simple. Take a rotary tool(dremmel, etc.) with a cutting disc and cut around the center, just like peeling and orange. After making the entire cut, take a screw driver and use it (carefully!!) to pry off on half of the cover. Then you will be left with the entire golf ball and half of the rubber exposed. There are so many ways to mount these once done. I have placed magnets on the back, and I have also glued them to a golf tee and mounted them on a board. Have fun, and be careful...these things are addictive! Mark

I have about a dozen that I have done as you suggested. I cut a little deep in one and decided to cut all the through and that is the one I was talking about. That one painted up nice but I am having some trouble with the paint on the one I tried last night. It was suppose to be a baby chicken but didn't come out too well I can see where I can become addicted to this. Thanks for all the good advice |
