Default Flea Market Gold #2

Here is the other figure I found. I have done some research online and found out he may have been carved by Spitzweg, 1808-1885, from Unterpfaffenhofen, Bavaria. Spitzweg was a famous painter and wood carver of that period. There was so much dirt and dust on him that it took me about an hour to wash him with a paint brush and mild dish soap. Who knows where he has been for the past 100 years or so. If anyone has any info as to where I can learn more on him, please post.

Thanks for looking;

Rich

What a find! Well done, but I have no idea how to find out more. They would definitely be treasured if I found such carvings. Joe.

It seems to be related to this painting

I noticed many carvings made from Carl Spitzweg paintings on the net.

Nice find.

You should never wash, clean, or paint anything old. If it was valuable it is no longer valuable after the wash. Especially anything made from wood. Learned this from watching to much "The Antique Road Show".

Not strictly true. Dirt can come off but not the "pattina", you can take of the dust but don't take off the OLD!

Nice find!
