Not at all. I am always trying to keep it to the minimum without making the carving look blocky. I tend to favor too many in my carvings because my confidence level when it comes to making those cuts is lacking, but I am working on it.

Have you seen the video by Harley Refsal "Figure Carving Scandinavian Style"? In it he discusses this very subject, and demonstrates by example.

Oh, I thought you meant Harvey Refsal after I read it again.

I had to hide him. Several people stopped by and wanted him after I mounted him on a silicone wine stopper.So I now have something to do with the leftover wood from the ends of my friendship cane segments.
