Default Flat plane?

Gene Messer's vids are so interesting and well made, I had to go for one of the projects. Next time I'll try for deeper cuts and more detail but I think it sort of shows flat plane of a shady boss and his 1/2 pint enforcer.

Very much flat plane bluesteel7. I am a fan of this type of carving and yours is very good. Keep at it. There is no end to the characters of flat plane carving.

BlueSteel7,

You are doing just fine with these. I can see the boss and the pint sized enforcer. Keep it up.

Safe Carving and God Bless,

Mar

Nice indeed. Perhaps you can work these fellows in a scene setting?

If it's flat plane you're after, don't be afraid to go deep; it creates shadowing that will give the illusion of movement and give your piece life. I don't think more [carved] detail is what you want. A few, well-placed, bold cuts should give the illusion of detail, without having to carve it.

IMO, of course.

Good point. Gene stresses pretty often that he cuts deep. In looking back at some of the flat plane figures, you're right as I don't see a great deal of detail. This style is interesting and it seems to take some skill to make them look right. Probably takes a lot of practice to get interesting results.
