Well, I got Harley Refsal's video and one of his Karl Oskar roughouts to give this a try. I'm definitely still in the learning stage but I had a lot of fun doing this. Still needs a little bit of work and then I have to learn how to paint it. |

Thanks guys! I think I have the right paint around here. I just need to give it a try. Never painted a carving before except a fishing lure or two I carved years ago. Refsal's video has some good info on painting that seems to go with what I've read here and seen on YouTube.

Well, I owe a bit of thanks to Gene Messer for the cuts. It was through his videos that I learned about Ron Wells/Mike Shipley knives which really helped me for this style carving. |

The more I look at this, the more I think the nose needs a lot of work. ![]() |

Hello Nomad, I think you should be quite pleased with your first caricature. As for the nose, it is your carvining and needs to pleae only you. That being said, it is a caricature and exagerating is the most common way to make a caricature. I'd leave it alone it looks great. You are certainly learning from the masters and done your lessons well! Thanks for sharing, Doug

I think it is a fine first caricature. Clean cuts, and few fuzzies. Looks like a nice, creamy piece of basswood, too... S~
