The results from following Gene's simple character tutorial posted on the forum. This time I used a block of wood the same size as what he did. Results are much better, although I do have to clean up some of those cuts. Comments? Suggestions for improvement?

Thanks, Bob. Yes, I do have the annoying tendency to try rounding things. Getting the hang of this flat plane thing is going to take some time.

Thanks, Gene. I'm still struggling with the face. This guy looks like a blockhead. Especially in the back. I suppose I can round the back a little. And I really do need to buy a v-tool. What size do you use for these carvings? Oh, and how the #%$% do you get clean cuts there between the legs? Separating the shoes and the legs is just messy. I suspect part of my problem is the knife. I really need something with a more pointed blade. And doesn't my lil guy look like he's losing his pants? Like so many high school kids these days. . .

Thanks for the kind words, Tom. The credit goes to Gene for his wonderfully instructive videos and picture tutorials. I'm just following the guide. It'll be a while before I can strike out on my own.

Most times people get 3 shots at improving or doing something?? You dont need that 3rd one for this little guy is cute and I like him! Nice work and I appreciate how good you are becoming with your carvings. The main part of carving or anything really is the Trying part. Forrest
