I think the smell is because it still green, I am carving a few green wood Santas out of mango, and they are not colored the same, in fact the coloring is bad, so I may have to end up painting them plus the bugs just love this wood, I ended up throwing the one santa in the freezer to kill the Hawaiian bugs. With this in mind....you know they will not leave the islands with agriculture grabbing things.

I bought some mango from ebay and it is very colorful and light weight. I haven't had a chance to use it but, I'm sure it will be used for boxes n such. Not a stick but a block.

Really nice looking wood you carved this wood spirit in,adds to how you created him just right! Plus I know about a certain cane can fit you better. Keep up this original work Di.For I sure enjoyed this cane.

Nice carving and a pretty, interesting wood. I have a friend and old school mate living in Hawaii who has mentioned a mango tree in her yard. I haven't seen one so I enjoyed looking at your post and unique stick.

The last year I just grab the wood....dig in without plans...., I just go for it and hope it turns out,...but I keep kicking myself, as I need to start drawing things out, and go do a bunch of old masters as that will help big time also. As I need to get down to more serious carving, planning ahead will help. I notice some of old master carvers keep plaster cast of the work they do, as it seems they do not guess where what goes where.

Di, you take all of the fun out of it if you plan ahead too much. I love your work.
