Default Wood spirit mango

This wood is mango. It has outstanding coloring, very bold blacks, browns, yellows, even touches of pink, This cane is my favorite one to use....as the strange shape seems to be very comfortable for me to use.

Nice wood. I just love those exotic woods you use. Never tried mango. Should be able to lay hands on some somewhere... have to give it try.

I like mango wood as well the smaller limbs are good to carve the large trunks can be hollow often. When I was in Thailand and the Philippines I got to carve mango it was everywhere.

I am carving two santas, this wood I have carved green as I have one tree that does not have fruit, So I cut a few of the larger limbs just so I could see how it carves? It is a very hard wood. ...the only thing I do not like about it....is it smells like rotten mangos... Don did you carve the mango dry? I have see some outstanding bowls turned from mango, if I ever decide to carve it again, I think it will be a very simple work that show the woods great color, that is if it has any.....as you can see from the color of the stick, I trim this tree down every year.

As you may know I am a contractor when we clear land I get my pick of the trees I would say the wood was a year old and dry. I think you will find that bad smell will go away when it driers a bit. The wood I carved smelled like slightly soured mango not unpleasant at all.

I came across some mango wood just yesterday. Someone had carved some bowls from it. It was varnished so I couldn't detect any smell. It was also quite light weight and had a tectrure that reminded me of miranti (maranti sp?). Didn't look too hard but the colour of the grain was very different. Still looking for a piece that I can use...
