Alice...I could use some help with the fuzzies....I used a .05mm bur and it tore up the wood...very dense surface...did not shave like I wanted....a knife or gouge would of worked better to make cleaner lines.
Rob...this valley is surrounded by Alaska's tallest mountains and all the bad snow fall is on the outside of the valley nearer the Pacific coast....but, gettin cold these days...-40oF again this morn....split'in wood for the firebox is easy, but I shattered an axe handle a few days ago!...oh, well!...still like living in a post-card most days!

I put a coat of finish on the shaft and then sand it. This helps control and get rid of the fuzzies.

I envy your wx....watching the golf in San Diego and wishing I was'nt looking at the snow and thermometer!.......ha!

Everyplace has its share of benefits and problems. You are dealing with snow and we are still having monquitos and flies around. If we do not get 2 or more weeks of sub freezing weather each winter then we have a bumper crop of mosquitos the next spring. A big snow for us would be 2 inches at one time, maybe one or two times a year, some years.
