Thanks Mark, Simon, and Ron,

I appreciate your ideas. I am using a stain now,...Mini Wax "golden pecan" to make the spruce shaft the same tint as the willow. Spruce has a much cleaner looking shaft and easy to work with....still nearly 30 yrs old at 1 inch. I will supply these to gift shops this summer...as un-finished sticks. Ron, did not think about the hole saw....great idea also.

Simon, that scrim is like 4th generation...casting your originals with this formula allows you to do a remake....when I see something I want to change...just cast another piece and go for it. So, don't expect too much at first...let me know when you are ready to begin and have your sticks/ materials and we can start you going....I know Mark has been doing alot of similiar work, so has alot of experience also.

Hi Greg, it looks like you have a great thing going once you get the two piece design figured out. As I've already mentioned, I love diamond willow and inserting the scrimshaw really makes it special. I use the natural Watco Danish Oil on all of my sticks and really like the way it looks and feels.

I do not use many spacers but you can make them out of most anything. Coins, contrasting wood, formica, plastic lids, etc. I paint most of my sticks with waterbased polyuruthane but will also use stain occasionally to change the appearance of a bland looking stick. I think that if you will check with your post office and shipping centers you will find that you can ship 3-4 sticks for very little more than you would pay for one. Most will have a length restriction. Usually 60 inches or less.
