| This is a brown trout carved from a piece of spalted beech, I have carved it in a simple folk art style and only added a few spots along the back and body for the trouty look, it has been varnished with yacht varnish to give it a wet look and with the superb spalting it has that feeling of just jumped out of the water, it has a buffalo spacer and sits on a hazel shank 52'' to the crown ,fitted with a brass ferrule and a rubber over ferrule for road walking, I also used a small dry fly fixed into the bottom of the mouth to add a little bling, this is an older piece and at the moment I am working on a rams horn trout and one in english yew, I will keep you all posted. Happy carving Tony Mills Shropshire Lad |

I agree, nice looking trout. Have you had any problems with the spalted wood losing some of it's strength? Claude |

beautiful piece Tony. you called it a simple design but quite often they look more interesting than ones that are spray painted rams horn. personally i prefer yours. cracking job mate!

Hi Tony, I second Kev... the wood looks a ripper. The added fly was also a very clever stroke. Nice over all presentation too. Well done.

Tony, Nice cane. I've been looking for some trout related inspiration for a gift for my fly fishing son. Please explain the "buffalo spacer". Is that the black ring between the handle and the shaft? I usually use a brass ferrule.
