I don't have much experience with Little Shavers, but I was under the impression that a knife or two was part of their kit.

If its a knife you're after, I can strongly recommend you contact Rick Wiebe of Wood 'n' Wildcraft at rick@woodcarvingbiz.com He sells a range of knives and Phiel chisels at very comptetitive prices.

Knives in particular he supplies modified for carving and sharpened... ready to go. They are particularly good value because they offer two or three blades which fold into the handle so you don't need to find space to store them all.

He's the guy who got me started.

Hey thanks Waitpinga, I sent him a message hoping that maybe he'll get back to me....But I'm mostly interested in a kit. That has all the neccesary tools and that aren't cheap material. I would like them to last.

So any suggestions on the size of the kit I should get?

Can't wait. Still waiting for these books. It feels like forever.

Sorry Piney, Must have just missed your last message. Hope everything worked out for you . If you haven't ordered anything yet, give Rick a go. If you don't know what you need explain to him what you want to do. He'll advise. He's also the cheapest sourse of Phiel tools I've found though I don't pretend to have my thumb on all the US prices these days. Oz is a bit far away for that.

Best I can suggest is check him out and compare. I think you'll be favourably impressed.

As for what I would recommend myself, I'd go with the 3 bladed knife and the three chisels I mentioned earlier in this thread. A lot depends on your technique though. These tools work well for me in a 'whittling' style (that is where one holds the work rather than having it bolted or clamped). Clamping your work probably means a broader range of chisels and less knife work. Maybe someone else could advise you there. As I said, Rick should be able to advise but you may want another opinion from someone who isn't selling you something. Personally, I trust his judgement.

I thought I only had thirty mintues but I found out that ordering from little shavers you have to fill out a form and send it to them first before you can actually get the stuff. So I haven't ordered it yet.

And boy I must of confused you all because I was asking what size kit I should get but then I realized it was only asking for glove size. Haha, sorry people. My mistake.

Waitpinga thanks for differintiating to me the difference between Whittling and clamping I always just thought whittling was makeing a quick creative peice without much thought or direction of what it would be.

Ok' I'll just wait for his email to get here. Thanks

I don't know about the other guy's but when I was a youngster my father always told me to buy the best tools that I could afford and they will last you the rest of your life and he was right. I have both sets of Flexcut tools and they are great. Have carved many many faces with them and even have a few ribbons. As far a knives go I make my own and that is fun too, have also made a few bucks selling a few. The Flexcut are expensive up here in Canada but still worth every penny. One other thing, don't think you are going to stop at sticks you will move on to other things.
