I like the ships but I LOVE your canes. You've certainly got the cane thing figured out to a "T". Another masterpiece for sure. Thanks for posting it!

Thank you folks for the kind words.

I must tell you a little story. You may recall that I have a granddaughter, Octavia. She is an adorable girl and attends an elementary school (grade 2)that is actually right next to our back yard. Living so close has it's advantages, I get to go pick her up when her Mom needs some help , working mother and father aren't always available to be home after school. I always enjoy her classmates, at that age they are so adorable and easily impressed by my various canes that I use. There are several who especially watch for me and to see which cane I am "wearing" that particular day. They love the dragons, and hawks, eagles and bears, and one little girl asked if I had a lion cane too. Her question was the inspiration for the cane. LOL She also asked if I had a tiger or leapord, so perhaps I had better get busy! Tomorrow I get to pick up Octavia, so I will wear my new lion cane, which is drying from the final layer of finish on the head and the last coat of wax on the shaft. The reaction of those little ones is all the satisfaction that I need to inspire me to carve more.

Bob

That's a great looking cane, Bob. The wood choice sets it off beautifully and your carving and painting ain't bad. either.

I love your story and wish I could be there when you show off your new cane to the children. You are correct that children of that age are a real kick to interact with. They are still full of wonder and easily impressed with simple things. Not to say your canes are simple, but you know what I mean.

Bob, that is a great looking cane and it seems you have found a never ending source of inspiration at that school yard!

The Lion was a big hit this afternoon when I went to pick up Octavia!!! The kids can't get over the fact that the head is carved from a block of wood, but then neither could the teacher. LOL I can see a demonstration coming up! That should be fun.

I stopped into a car dealer to look at a new car later in the afternoon, and one of the staff there wanted to know where I bought the neat cane ....... silly bloody man!
