Hi Everyone, I was wondering what everyone prefers to use as tips on your canes and sticks. I have found that they are not easily found and some are quite expensive. Just looking for some advice from the professionals. Thank You |

I use the rubber chair tips which I buy from a local rubber/pool supply store (not the rubber cane tips which are HUGE and make every stick you put them on positively geriatric! They come in a range of sizes but I use mostly between 10mm and 28mm depending on the diameter of the stick or staff I'm making. They do wear out over time but they are cheap (less then $2) and easy to replace and they provide a better grip on most surfaces than anything esle I've tried. The only thing they don't handle well is ice but here in Australia that's not exactly an issue! |

I've done a couple, used hand hammered nails in the bottom (don't to that, they don't work so well) and used rubber cane tips bought at Walgreens for about a buck apiece, they come in a couple sizes. Lately i've been searching for wine bottle stoppers, in the process have seen some interesting dual purpose types- brass colored spike for icy or slippery conditions and a rubber tip to cover the spike while indoors, etc. Thought that was intriguing, will look closer when the time comes again.

I also use the Rubber tips on all my sticks and Canes. I under cut the Stick or Cane a size smaller to reduce the size of tip so it blends in better with the stick and not look like a crutch. The Clicking of the Stick on a hard surface is very annoying to me and everyone around. Merle

I too use the rubber furniture tips. Be sure though that you buy rubber ones and not the plastic ones. They are inexpensive and wear well. Do not try to stretch them too much over the stick or they will split. My supplier carries them in several sizes so I can usually get a good fit without too much trouble. Marvin |

I'll have to vote for no tip. I like it natural, but then again I don't use mine on slick surfaces. I just don't like the look of a rubber cup on my sticks.

Every stick or cane that I have made has a copper piece epoxied to the end of the piece with a rubber tip on that. When I put on the rubber tip I place a dime or nickle or quarter, depending on the size, in the tip so it doesn't wear out the rubber tip. The copper piece is filled with epoxy and is custom fit to the wood piece. The copper tip is polished and will, over time, turn a beautiful green. I hopes this helps...TP

I appreciate all the info and tips that you are providing. Here is the website that I have been using. It seems to me that the prices are good and they will beat the lowest prices out there on most accessories. I have spoken to them via phone and they have been very good to me so far. Canes |
