thanks for the nice comments. merle, the wood is quite common here in my neck of missouri woods, it's called random sapling...hahaha!!!...seriuosly, i do not know what type of wood it is. i carved very well though. i did this one with a mallet and chisels. i am thinking maybe a stick holding device or a vise of some kind should be my next project, i carved this one while pinning it against my bench with my arms, legs, feet, whatever i could do to secure it and pound away with the mallet and chisels. not the best or safest way to go about it. regardless, i am hooked on sticks!!!
