Default Some Cane Blocks

This is my first time to post pictures of my work. I have been infected by the Carving Bug for almost a year. These are double sided cane blocks I have carved for our club. They are Basswood painted with acrylics and cleared with Poly. I like carving my own ideas, so some of these are not the " normal " type of carvings .

Normal or not, they have style! Well done and welcome aboard. Nice work on the blocks. I hope we get to see more of your work in future.

See this is the reason I love this site "ORIGINALITY".

Great work. When you say, "cane blocks" what exactly do you mean?

And you said a year only. Please more pics.

belprime,

Very nice work. All the pieces are well carved and your painting looks very good.

simplyme,

These types of blocks are used for "friendship canes". They have a hole down the center for a threaded rod so you can exchange blocks with a group of carvers and assemble them into a single cane. This is easier than the old method of passing or shipping a cane or stick from carver to carver for carving.

Those are remarkable carvings. Not only are they original, but they are nicely carved and painted. I hope you post more of your work and contribute more to the board.

Good ones....you should go to W3E (woodcarvers exchange) and enter the friendship cane swap!

Thanks for all the great comments. In November I will have been carving for one year. But, I've always done artwork...signs, pinstriping, illustration and even sculptured miniatures for game companys. So, that all helps one way or another in my carving.

The thing sticking out of the top of the indian is the tip of the awl that it is sitting on.

I've dug up some other photos of my carving ... from freestyle chipcarving to some miniatures I've tryed carving in wood...
