Wow! What and inspiration! I've been thinking of doing a rattler on a staff for a nephew, a snake hunter for a gas company. Where did you get the eyes? What did you use as a model... pictures? a skin? Thanks for sharing. Harry C

I get my eyes from Tohickan Glass Eyes. www.tohickonglasseyes.com. Generally I base my snake carvings on pictures but in this case I did refer to a taxidermied rattlesnake for the shape of the opened mouth and the detail of the inside of the mouth.

Your serpent staff is beautiful! I took your link to look back at it in the various stages of work. It's amazing to think it was once a 6" dia log. You did a fantastic job. Thanks for all the info on 'how' you accomplished it.

Fantastic job David.Very realistic and I can see that even though I was a journeyman painter I have a lot to learn in the finishing area.I also appreciate the info on where you get your eyes.I'm trying to do a wizard staff and am considering giving him some type of eyes that they could help me with if I go that route. Now I have to check out your earlier post and I hope to see more of your work because it's top notch.Thank you
