I have made one on your pattern, only I edge grooved the end clamp pieces and put a heavy bungie with adjustable ends on each one,I wrap the bungie over the edge. I fastened one end of the bungie solid and put a dowel in the base for the other adjustable hook to hold to. That way I can adjust the tension as I need it, for whatever size stick I have in it. I built a work stand like "sliver " posted on here a while back and it fastenes to it. I use a trailer ball and coupler swivel for it. I also made a shaving horse to fit the same work stand.
Now all i have to do is start carving and quit making mechanical things.
I have also just about finished my version of a PORTA STROP.If I wasn't so computer stupid I would post some pictures. Maybe my 10 yr old grandaughter will help me post some.
