| | Indian stick topper Finally got something finished. This Indian (4" tall) was started last year and I guess I got tired of all the details. Since I just started wood burning a couple of months ago, I finished him off by burning in the fletching on the feathers, his hair and some other things. I'm a little disappointed that he's so dark, but that's Watco Danish oil on Mahogany for you. I'm going to mount him on a Yucca stick I got in Texas. |

| | Re: Indian stick topper Ron T I like all the details in this Native American carving, like the face and his head band plus how you did his hair! It will look great on the top of the stick you spoke about. Once you have the stick finished be sure to post it. Good work so far Ron! Forrest

Thanks for the compliment but I have to say I'm much more impressed by your carvings. I like that your range of subjects is so broad and varied. |

| | Re: Indian stick topper Hey there buddy, looks mighty fine to me, altho I do agree, he's pretty dark in the pix, I have the same problem with a spirit I did for a stick, he's
been sittin on my desk for months, probably the best spirit I've done, just haven't got around to sittin him where he belongs on the top of a stick.

| | Re: Indian stick topper Hi Cliff,
Thanks. I was wondering if there is a way of finishing the wood without making it so dark? I think I'll pose the question in the painting and finishing forum.
Good luck with mounting your wood spirit on a stick. |

| | Re: Indian stick topper Hi MarciMN,
Yucca is a succulent in the cactus family that grows throughout the SouthWest. Each year the plant throws out a stalk that grows right up the center of the plant. The stalk flowers at the top, the flowers die and throw off seeds, and the stalk dies and dries. You break off the stalk, after it's scattered its seeds, and you've got a great, lightweight stick that's quite strong.
