I've been working on this cane that has a neat, burled handle from the root ball. The patterns are from a leather carving book and I have carved some finger grips into the handle. I'm thinking about doing some wood burning to add some finer details to the leaves and flowers, maybe stippling for the background? Anyhow, here's some pictures of what I've got so far. Not sure that I am going to carve much further down on the shaft.

Hickory is some tough stuff. With your delicate designs, you are making it look easy. Are you using power? or hand tools to carve it? I look forward to seeing more as you progress. |

Very nice, that the burl is part of the cane as oposed to being 2 separate pieces, makes it extra special.
