Default First walking stick!

This piece was commissioned by a gentleman in Scotland, as a gift for his sister, who raises Clumber spaniels. He wanted me to make the top for a stick he had and he would attach it. I was a little nervous about it, getting the size right to fit the staff he had, but he did a great job and it worked out perfectly. His sister was very surprised, and very pleased! What a nice brother she has! Deborah

Deb I am no expert by any twist of the imagination however, your piece is simply the best looking cane topper I have seen so far.
You also gave me a clue! I looked at those pictures of yours for ages and simply love the detail.
I wanted to do a carving of my beloved Pointer Kira but I felt I might not be able to do the carving justice. The clue? Well I figure now I can do a bust of her head like your cane topper and maybe later if I get that right I can do an entire carving.
Golly if this is your first I cant wait to see what you turn out with some practice lol.

You did a beautiful job, Deborah. If that's you first, I don't see much room for improvement. You're a natural at it. Thanks for sharing.

G'day Deb,

That's a ripper piece of work! I've been chatting with some English guys on a stick website and they all paint their cane toppers... especially dogs. I've always felt that painting only hides the skill (or otherwise) of the carver. This piece of yours just reinforces my belief. Painting something that good would be like painting a marble statue... sacrilage!

Very well done.
